Note that the last issue of the CAS Journal was May 2004, upon the merger of the CAS with the VSA. The VSA now regularly publishes a VSA Papers edition of the VSA Journal (which replaces the CASJ).
The CAS Journal had a two-fold mission: to increase and diffuse the knowledge of musical acoustics and to promote the construction of fine stringed instruments. Accordingly, the Journal carried a mixture of scientific research papers treating topics in the acoustics of stringed instruments and less technical papers explaining how to apply the acoustical principles, research findings, and techniques to the making of instruments.
The CAS Journal was published semi-annually in May and November. The Journal also included information about upcoming meetings, workshops, and seminars that may be of interest to CAS members.
All papers submitted to the Journal passed through a formal written review process. Each paper was evaluated by one of a panel of anonymous reviewers.
Because of the continued importance of the CAS Journal as a reference, we continue to make back issues available thru the VSA Office.
